The Lead Body for the UK Aromatherapy Profession

Regulation

Regulation exists for the protection of the public and the AC (& previously the AOC) has worked hard for over 20 years to ensure policies were in place for the aromatherapy profession to be regulated.

The Aromatherapy Council recommends the CNHC:

The CNHC Aromatherapy Register was launched in May of 2009. The CNHC is endorsed by the Department of Health. At the bi-annual meeting with Professional Associations on 17 November 2009, Kate Ling Head of European and Specialist Legislation at the Department of Health confirmed that “CNHC is the only voluntary regulatory body for complementary healthcare which has official government backing.  No other organisation has the same exacting criteria or focus on patient safety and quality across a range of therapies…..  The more people who register with the CNHC the more it will be recognised as the only organisation which provides the guarantees that members of the public are looking for.”   The CNHC works with the AC to ensure that all aromatherapy registrants meet the National Occupational Standards for Aromatherapy and have fulfilled all the requirements as set out in the AC Core Curriculum. Registrants join via one of the AC member associations to ensure that these standards are met.

The CNC clearly states on its literature that it will only accept qualifications that meet both the Aromatherapy National Occupational Standards AND the AC’s Core Curriculum.

Lavender has many varieties and is one of the most used essential oils in Aromatherapy.

Students need to learn several species of Lavender, their chemical constituents and toxicity levels in order to choose the right lavender for a particular client.

Aromatherapy Education is constantly developing in order to best serve the needs of the individual, safely and effectively
