New Guide—Responsible Marketing |

The AC is currently reverting back to becoming a lead body for the profession, bringing together the whole profession into one governing body. This has occurred as a result of the launch of one federal regulator for complementary therapies in October 2007 (www.grcct.org) and the imminent launch of a second federal regulator in April 2008 currently to be called the Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council. We will post all the information therapists and the public need in due course.
Full details of what has now transpired in relation to the changes in the AC can be read in the minutes of the AC meeting on the 6th November 2007 (see minutes page).
We do need to report that the Aromatherapy Council was excluded from the Federal Working Group along with the Reflexology and Reiki profession earlier this year. The FWG was the working group set up by the Prince’s Foundation for Integrated Health to facilitate one federal structure for regulation of complementary therapies. Unfortunately, as the three professions disagreed with the structure that was emerging, instead of allowing discussion and compromise, the Chair of the FWG saw fit to exclude them from further discussions within the FWG. The AC & RF have tried to be reinstated but because we did not like the structure, we were not permitted to rejoin. Please read the notes of the meeting between the AC, RF and the CEO of the Foundation and Chair of the FWG by clicking here.
We are of course saddened by this turn of events. The AC and RF prefer a different approach and this has been realised in the GRCCT. It is important to note that whilst the majority of the Aromatherapy associations support the GRCCT model, some are still not advising their members to join it as they do not yet see any benefit of a federal regulator for their members and believe that having two models will be confusing (see minutes of 6/11/07 for full details). The Reiki group is currently considering the GRCCT model as are several other therapy groups. It is up to therapists to decide which federal regulator to join but of course we will continue to lobby for one federal regulator in the future and hope that a compromise will finally be met where our opinions and concerns are properly addressed.
